What a lovely, touching story. I, too, keep "in touch" with my mother by having her things, or things she would have liked, around and using them. Don't you feel it keeps her that much alive and with you?

I hope you do finish her quilts. Then there will be both of your lives sewn into it.

That was a beautiful post. It is so important to feel connected to our past and our loved ones. I know I cherish my grandfather more all the time, though he has been gone ten years. Your mother sounds so creative. It must be so meaningful that you can find joy in some of the same ways she did. You carry a part of her with you always.

OMG, I had a Velvet doll too, whom I adored. I think it is in my basement minus her purple velvet mod dress. My sister had the other doll in the same family--the redhead can't remember her name.
My mom is very crafty like your mother was, my sister and I had matching outfits for church and every occasion sewn on her machine(we weren't twins, but we were a year apart) during the 70s.
