or what I do when I am not working or farming …

Before and After

Before

This is my pattern notebook. In it I keep print outs of old MagKnits and Knitty.com patterns as well as those I have bought. There are a lot there and it was time to reorganize.

After

The notebook on the left now contains only sock patterns. I have arranged them by designer (i.e. Wendyknits, Cookie A, Knitspot) as well as the general patterns downloaded from knitty.com and the like. Although many of these patterns are readily available online, and I have copies of them on my hard drives, sometimes it is easier to refer to the print-outs. My one pet peeve is that I love to see what yarns were used in sample socks and those are not always included.

How do you organize your patterns?

  1. Cindy K Said,

Organize my patterns? You’re kidding, right? OK – I do have plans to reorganize my entire knitting room as soon as school is out. My loose patterns will be in notebooks, similar to yours & the yarn in bins according to weight. I just wish I could move the litter box to another location!

  2. Kelly Marie Said,

WOW – I don’t exactly organize my patterns. I have a folder in my file cabinet that says “Knitting Patterns” and I consider myself extremely organized to have even that. The worst is that when something goes into hibernation, I put the pattern “somewhere”, intending to make a special folder for the hibernating UKO’s, and then they disappear, never to be seen again. Then there are the patterns I copy out of my own books (to make them easier to cart around) and fold and tuck between the back cover of the book and the meat of the book, which tend to slide out and get completely disorganized.

My idea of organization would be being able to see the floor in my craft room!
