Imports and Inspiration

A few weeks ago I broke down and bought some Wollmeise grab bags. What is it about the element of surprise that excites me so? I am a sucker for grab bags from anywhere.

This color would be called Taube but I guess it is not up to par. I love it. I haven’t seen many Wollmeise skeins that are so saturated but so muted at the same time.

Kind of like this female cardinal at the newly-remounted window feeder, right?

Meanwhile I was looking for inspiration for patterns for this new yarn. Have you checked out “Pure/Twin – SHOW YOUR FOs!” discussion in the wollmeiseholics anonymous group on Ravelry? A lot of people are creating some *gorgeous* things. I may have added several to my queue just this morning – I am only up to 1357 items there. What’s a few more?

In The Bag

I have had this lovely skein in my stash since Rhinebeck 2012. It is handspun from Lisa Souza and is 50% Angora, 25% merino and 25% silk. I love it. You would not believe just how soft it is. I’ve been searching for a while to find just the right pattern for it. I decided it had to be a cowl to keep that soft pettable fiber close to me.

I decided on the Destroyed Cowl but the yarn had different ideas. It is just so soft that it doesn’t make a stiff fabric at all. I think the Destroyed Cowl needs a little backbone to it so this project is frogged and I am searching for a new cowl to knit. Maybe I will mix this with some MadTosh for a more sturdy neckpiece.

So I did go back to Three Bags Full and I bought yet another bag. This one. covered in birds. “Puffins are gorgeous.” “Seagulls are noisy.” “Pigeons are misunderstood.”

So even if I don’t have success in finishing projects, the projects will still look pretty spectacular!

A Wurm-y gift

I made this hat in just a few days. It’s super-stretchy and because of that, it makes a good slouch hat too. I used a prop I’ve been spending a lot of time with lately for its picture: a snow shovel.

Is it cold where you are? Our records for low temperatures are breaking all over. Makes it necessary to have a nice wurm – I mean warm – hat.

Here is something I bought for myself —

A new bag from Three Bags Full. And let me tell you, do they ship fast or what! I ordered on Friday and it arrived on Monday. I love it. I see there are new bags listed in their Etsy shop and I have my eye on another one. I love their designs.

Pattern: Wurm
Yarn: Manos del Uruguay Wool Clasica color 107
I made this as a gift but I think I need to make one for me!
