But I have managed to push out a pair of socks. In the skein (and I wish I took a picture of it) the colors weren’t my cup of tea. But all knit up I think they look pretty good don’t you?

These are some funky cables aren’t they? I ended up breaking a cable needle in the process so I used an extra sock needle for the rest of the cables. I can never do cables without needles.
The funky cables are repeated from the heel down to the toe.

There is a thread on Ravelry entitled “Your Ugliest FO.” It is 212 pages long. I think I have some serious contenders here, what do you think?

The runner up: These are Fiber Trends Felted clogs. The bottom, Cascade 220, felted very well. The top not so much. I believe it is a Harrisville Wool I am not sure. I had such high hopes for these. I will try the pattern again, it is a very quick knit and they look so cozy when other people make them. For now I will let these mock me.

And our winner: mittens. These were made from a lovely single ply romney skein from.. oh shoot I can’t remember. I got it at Rhinebeck and in the skein it was so beautiful. A single ply wook, I thought it would felt if I looked at it too long. But alas, I washed and washed and washed and even put them in the dryer to no avail. These babies weren’t shrinking.

Not a bit of felting, see that?

So if you know anyone with 9″ hands who likes pastels, I have just the pair of mittens for them! Let me know!

I’ve already told you my approach for doing lace. Well I finally finished my first lace piece, and it’s now blocking.

I purchased lace blocking wires from KnitPicks last month, and while simple in concept, I’ve never used anything like them before and I am not sure if I inserted them the best way.

The Kernel scarf has an edging of 3 knit stitches on each side. I used this edge to hold the wires. The scarf is longer than a single wire, so I had to use 2 on each side.

The ends have slight points, but I didn’t take pictures of them. I inserted a pin in each point to pull it down and exaggerate it.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the finished pictures!

No not really. It’s just her Maine Morning Mitts done a la Jared Flood’s Turn a Square hat. I wanted to knit a manly version of the mitts for a man who likes purple.

I am not exactly sure why I decided I would hold clementines while I took the picture of my hand (which is very difficult by the way). The plants are Selaginella mosses that were on sale at the grocery store last week. I love their lushness.

I used a tubular bind off for the finger area. I like how it turned out.
Yarn: Cascade 220 Purple Heather, unknown Noro silk garden (I did take extra time to ensure the stretches of color stripes matched)
Pattern: Maine Morning Mitts

Size: I cast on 42 stitches instead of 33, made them an inch longer

Like me you might have hundreds of patterns at your disposal. Bought, paid for, and just hanging out in your personal library. But have you checked out Twist Collective? (Pssst, winter issue up now!) They have some nice stuff!

When I saw the Cinquefoil pattern, I was intrigued even though I am not much of a hat person, much less a beret. But seeing the $8 kits on elann.com sealed the deal. Yup, $8 for 3 skeins of cashmere yarn.

Mmmmm cashmere. On a plate. (It’s blocking now, and still damp.)

I also bought some Knitpicks circs to make the hat. These are 16″ sizes 2 and 3, the sizes recommended for the hat. I didn’t think I had a large head, but this hat seems a little small. Good thing I bought more than one kit from elann! (Seriously – $8 for cashmere. Did I mention that?)

In other news, I got a snack in the mail. If you watch their site, they typically have a freebie every month. Not cashmere, but still good!

The yarn is Cherry Tree Hill potluck worsted – remember when they had their own bag sales and you only picked the color family and the weight, and they shipped you …. something? Yeah, it’s that old. It’s a mix of greens and very warm.

The buttons came from some vendor at Hemlock this year, I am not sure who. The pattern is Interweave Knits Fall 2009.

The whole time I knit it, this movie (and its song) were on my mind. Now you can have the ear worm too! (Besides, I loves me some Clint!)

Be sure to check errata before you start from the pattern in the magazine; the chart is wrong.

The second sock I finished should have been a quicker knit, I am not sure what my problem was. This took me 4 days. A nice, short, lacy summer sock.

The yarn was the second shipment of the Fiber Baristas sock club and is from Zen Garden. Although I don’t have close-ups, the heel on this sock is really spectacular. Instead of typical SL1 K1, the lace descends and gradually tapers off.

So you remember the Monkey sock I did, and because I am inept at crochet, the provisional cast-on required for the picot cuff was less than stellar! I tried threading some waste yarn through live stitches instead, and although it was a little slow going getting the stitches off the needle and knit together, I am happy to report I have found a method that works for me. When I am feeling more masochistic, I will attempt the provisional cast-on again.

So I had this other idea – create another pair of Monkeys in a yarn I thought was the opposite of the first one I chose. For this pair, I also did the picot cuff, but used the ‘no purl’ approach.

I think I like the ‘no purl’ pattern better. And unlike most of the world, I am not addicted to this pattern. I have to make the mates to this sock and I am done.
Pattern: Monkey Socks (4 repeats, both purl and no purl)
Yarn: (dark) Chewy Spaghetti Spaghetti “Festive”
Yarn: (light) Zen String Serendipity Fingering “Reflection”
