So to match the cardigan and hat I made for my co-worker’s newborn son, I made a pair of booties.

There may have been pom-poms involved.

Mmmmm Chocolate

Yes, it’s another swap, this time the “Autumn Chocolate swap” on Ravelry. But with the time of year and all, it is very easy to sneak some holiday chocolate in there too! I know I did for mine, and my swap partner did for me too!
Included are 2 different kinds of Hershey kisses, and plenty of chocolate from her favorite candy shop in Lansing Michigan. This will keep me in chocolate for a while! And keeping with the chocolate theme, String Theory sock yarn in “Winter Canopy” which is a mix of browns, white and some blue.

Thank you Lauren! You read me like a book! Maybe even two books!

Included in my package were 2 books, even one from my Amazon wishlist. The books are “Meditations from the Mat” and “Herbal Healing for Women.” Also in the package were Tazo Green Tea, Ghiradelli chocolate with peanut butter, some herbally cleaning towels for mats or whatever, a Wah! CD (new to me! yay!), huge jar of strawberry jam from the sender’s favorite local place, and yaarrrn.

Knit Picks Imagination yarn in Seven Dwarves. Let’s go in for a close-up.

The way to Zen

The way to zen is through knitting of course! But really, I am currently participating in a yoga-themed swap on Ravelry . Blogless Ellab has sent me a very nice package! She included a book, “Knitted Socks East and West,” Neil Young “Harvest” CD, and 2 skeins of sock yarn.
I picked the mail up as I was heading out and I have to tell you, I was so excited about the Neil Young CD I immediately popped it in the player in my trick! Heaven! It has been a long since I have had this album and I was so happy to be reunited with it.

The yarn is Wildfoote in “Dark Carmel,” a nice orange-y brown which I really like! I see many patterns in the book where I can use this yarn! Thank you ellab!

Arrivals and Departures

A few goodies arrived this week in the mail.

First off, The Loopy Ewe Anniversary kit. The pattern looks great and I can’t wait to get started! (Debbie O’Neill at Nutty Creations, “Poppycock”). The Lorna’s Laces yarn and the coffee mug are colored to match the Loopy Ewe’s headquarters’ colors.

The Fall 09 issue of Interweave Knits. The Fall issue of just about any magazine is huge and spectacular and full of promise and this one is no different! Bandelier Socks and Farmers Market cardigan are my runaway faves.

Some yarn from Colorful Yarn whom I read about on Wendyknits blog. It is incredibly vibrant. This is the “Berry” color.

Also vibrant is this skein of Wollmeise Wasabi I scored in a recent Loopy Ewe Wollmeise sneak-up. This yarn goes so fast when it is available. I was lucky enough to be at the computer when word went out it was online.

And finally here is more Wollmeise, a color I have coveted and never been able to buy. Thank you to dear Liz who sent me a skein.

So departing Chez Rooster is this skein of Wollmeise Kurbis, a color that Liz has been coveting. I have to admit, the more I look at it, the more I covet it too! I will find you again Kurbis! Liz, enjoy!

Pass the tissues!

I have to admit I had a low point yesterday. Driving home from our new farm where I had tried weeding and using a rake and finally giving up in frustration at how little I could do, I wallowed in a little bit of self-pity. You see last Monday my dog attacked me. Except for my legs and my torso, I am covered in stitches and bite marks. My arms are shredded.
I am dealing with it! Everything works! But yesterday, not so much.
I got home and found a FedEx box by the front door. w00t! For me! Who doesn’t get excited when surprise FedEx boxes appear?

It was a follow up package from Jo Anne, my Warm Ewe Up Winter Swap partner. Excellent timing on her part.

I chuckled. And that evolved into a giggle. And more giggling.

And giggles evolved into full-blown laughter. And then you guessed it, more waterworks. Laughing and crying at the same time, who knew I had it in me?

Here is her note:

Dear Mo, The instant I saw this pattern in in an old book, I knew it was meant for you! …I hope it fits in your collection. Love, Jo Anne.

Laughing won out in the end as it always does. Jo Anne, I love it. You outdid yourself. I keep this in full view and look at it all the time and still giggle. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Warm Ewe Up Swap Partner Revealed!

I am about a week late reporting that I received my final package from my Warm Ewe Up Swap Partner. And it’s a doozy! See all that yarn? And Opal too! A sock yarn I don’t have And LL Sock in Vera which I have knit into Jaywalkers before but they are all threadbare and worn. I should take a pic for you.

Plus a sock book, a keychain from San Francisco (my favorite city!), a reusable grocery bag, *chocolate* and a wonderful note to let me know exactly who my partner was.

And it’s Jo Anne from San Fransisco! Thank you! You went above and beyond and I love everything.

Warm Ewe Up Winter Yarn Swap

I am in a secret swap on Ravelry and my first package arrived yesterday! And let me tell you, it was the highlight of an otherwise pretty crummy day. Look at that loot! Yarn, chocolate, coffee from Trader Joe’s (when will they come to upstate NY I wonder!), cough drops, Emergenc-C and echinacea tea, lushish smyrna figs …

and this great book, “Made From Scratch,” by Jenna Woginrich. My secret pal wrote “I suspect you could have written this book, but it reminded me of you and your lifestyle so I though you might like it.” If you want to check out more of the book, the author has a website that is now in my bookmarks!

And yay! Schaefer yarn!

Christmas Knitting

My Christmas knitting went slow and is not yet completed. I have 2 more socks to finish. I did buy a lot of the PolarKnit yarn for some quick gifts.

Here is their Skull Beanie pattern knit for one of my step-daughters.

I made some other things but I can’t show them yet because (*sigh) I haven’t mailed them out yet.

Thoughts on PolarKnit? Those Polar Fleece stickers are a little hard to remove. It leaves little balls of fleece everywhere – especially if you like to knit with a fleece blanket on your lap. I thought I knit with even tension but some of the ribbing is crooked. I wish they offered more colors. It knits up well-defined cables. Everyone LOVES the fabric it creates – it is soft, spongy and warm. It’s a unique choice of yarn when you want to do up some quick projects.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Someone in our family received a cute Christmas puppy.

Everyone gave the puppy a warm welcome.
